About us

As weddings from around the country continued to get postponed owing to the outbreak of coronavirus and the need to maintain social distancing, Shaadi.com launched this innovative initiative called ‘Weddings from home’. We aimed to help and enable couples across all communities, cultures and religions to get married and continue their wedding celebrations via video calls from their own safety of their homes.

The first wedding from home was held on 14th April which was as close to a traditional Hindu ceremony with Ganesh sthapna, Sangeet, dhol, sangeet performances by family and even make-up and mehndi artists who helped the bride fix her look via video call. Wedding invites were sent with video call links and even a special backdrop was designed to create the right atmosphere and setting. A Panditji officiated all the ceremonies via a video call. Around 200 family & friends joined the ceremony and showered their blessings.

This platform ensures that the stress of organising a big fat Indian wedding is reduced in these difficult times. Even not so tech-savvy people generation will be able to participate in all the ceremonies, albeit virtually.

Anupam Mittal, Founder & CEO – People Group (Shaadi.com), “This initiative finds its roots in our promise of togetherness, and in times of social distancing this is our way of delivering on the promise. The interest amid users has been overwhelming. This also sends a strong social message that if some can get married from home, the least others can do is stay at home and save human lives. Based on this, we decided that it was time for the Big Fat Indian Lockdown Wedding.”
